"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes . . . For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith.' " Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
The Battle The Christian Faces
Christians are in a battle for the spirit, soul and body of men (Eph. 6:10-13; 1 Thess. 5:8, 23). Because this battle has eternal consequences, we cannot run or hide. Rather we must take our stand with Christ our Captain and defend the Truth (Jn. 8:32; Matt. 10:22-33; Heb. 2:10). This being true, Christians have a duty to grow up in Christ, putting on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:14-18), that we may properly contend for the Faith (2 Tim. 2:1-15; Jude 3; Eph. 4:5).
Defending and contending requires learned Bible knowledge (2 Pet. 3:14-18). This knowledge once gained equips us to identify and expose the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph. 5:11). Therefore, Bible knowledge and its proper application to our lives and to the times in which we live become critical to our continued salvation and to the salvation of those who hear us (1 Tim. 4:16).
